Robert L. Abel, age 86 of Dayton, died Wednesday October 5, 2011 at Rhea Medical Center. He was born March 15, 1925 in Dayton to the late Albert and Irene (Tucker) Abel.

Robert worked for DuPont in Chattanooga for 32 years before retiring in 1982. He loved gardening and sharing the fruits of his labors with his family and friends. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dayton.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nellie (Sedman) Abel, sons Robert "Danny" (Vera) Abel and Douglas Abel, daughter Janice (David) McMichael, sister Margaret Trotter, three grandchildren Aaron (Becca) Abel, Adam McMichael and Dana McMichael, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Robert will be Thursday at 7:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ken Pierce officiating. Burial will be Friday at 11:30 am at Rhea Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church of Dayton.
