William Augustus Armstrong is the Son of Archibald and Margaret Armstrong; His Father, Archibald, was a 2nd Lietenant in the 9th Virginia Regiment in the Revolutionary War;
Loving Husband of Margaret "Peggy" Jameson, whom he married on the 26th of March, 1793;
Beloved Father of Thomas Armstrong, William Jameson Armstrong (Wife, Ann Tribbett Armstrong), Archibald Armstrong (Wife, Elizabeth "Betsey" McCutcheon Armstrong), John Armstrong and Rachel McCrory Armstrong (Mrs. Robert Wardlaw McCutcheon);
Brother of Robert Armstrong, Ann Armstrong (Mrs. James Elliott), Thomas Armstrong, Isabella Armstrong (Mrs. Thomas Armstrong) and Jane Armstrong (Mrs. Samuel McCray).
At the age of 16, in 1775, William Armstrong enlisted in the 9th Virginia Regiment and fought in the Revolutionary War, later serving with General Washington; he fought in "The Battle of Guilford".
A few years after his wife Peggy died, William married a second time, in April of 1809, this marriage being to Margaret Kirkpatrick of Little Calf Pasture .
Now he rests in the Old Lebanon Cemetery, next to his son Archibald (who predeceased him by 4 months), granddaughter Virginia Armstrong and another granddaughter, Rachel Armstrong and her infant daughter, Rachel Elizabeth Armstrong.

This Cemetery had been overgrown with shrubbery and fallen trees and forgotten for many years; it was restored in the early 2000's; many Headstones have crumbled and simply disappeared.
