Bruce played college football and finished up his college career at the University of Miami; he continued to enjoy sports his whole life. Bruce was a veteran of WWII, having served in the Navy. On July 24, 1948 Bruce married Willie Dean Sutton and they recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in July of 2003. Bruce was also a devoted member of First Christian Church for many years. He worked for Arco Chemical for 30 years before he retired. Bruce is one of 12 children and is preceded in death by 3 brothers and 5 sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Dean Sanders of Baytown, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Jim Lindsey Sanders and Georgia Ann Winterhalter Sanders of Baytown, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Junius Lee Hales of Baytown, TX; 3 sisters and 1 brother-in-law, Myrtle Norene Burrows of Nacogdoches, TX; Betty Fay Tynes and Alton of Houston, TX; Nina Jean Groth of Waco, TX; and 4 grandchildren, Nancy Elizabeth Sanders of Crowley, TX; Melissa Beatrice Pugh, of Woodlands, TX; Luke Samuel Hales of Houston, TX; and Zachary Lee Hales, of Baytown, TX. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2003, also at Earthman Funeral Home. Officiating will be Reverend Bob Dees of First Christian Church. Interment will follow at Earthman Memory Gardens, 8624 Garth Rd., Baytown
