T.H. Lanigan has suffered a leg injury while training as a paratrooper in Georgia recently. Lanigan served for 2 years with the infantry in the Aleutian Islands, then was transfered to the paratroop division and was sent overseas again. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Lanigan of Ottumwa.

Uncle Tim was a paratrooper during WW 11. He worked for the "City of Ottumwa" for over 30 years. "He played on State Champion Baseball Team and was honored by the Little League for his efforts" He was the son of James Aloysious Lanigan and Annie M. Phillips Lanigan and was born in Ottumwa.

OTTUMWA - TIMOTHY H LANIGAN, 77 OF 304 Minneopa, died at 7:55 p.m. June 18, 1999 at his home. He was born on September 23, 1921, in Ottumwa, Iowa to JAMES and ANNA PHILLIPS LANIGAN. he married BESSIE E MILLER on Sept 0, 1942 at Lancaster, Schuyler County Missouri. She died on March 01, 1999.

He lived in Ottumwa, Iowa all his life. He served with the Army as a paratrooper during World War II He was an employee of the City of Ottumwa for over 30 years, retiring as supervisor of the Street Department in 1983. "In 1938, he played on State Champion American Legion Baseball Team" He was honored by the Midwest Little League for his efforts and his many hours of hard work.

He is survived by two sons, LARRY LANIGAN of Kansas
City, Missouri; and GARY LANIGAN of Ottumwa, Iowa two daughters, SANDRA HIPPLER of Davenport, Iowa; (now of Bettendorf, Iowa)and JANET SODEMAN of Cincinati, Ohio; (now of the Ozarks in Missouri)11 grandchildren; and 11 great~-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, JAMES LANIGAN and an infant brother; and a sister MARY LANIGAN.
The service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa, Iowa. The Rev.Dewey Grimes officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery. Military services will be conducted by the O.B. Nelson Post #3 of the American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. Tuesday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Pallbearers will be Grandsons, TIMOTHY J WALLACE, RICHARD TODD and BRADY SODEMANN and TIMOTHY F MATTHEW, MARK and ANTHONY LANIGAN. A memorial has been established to Hospice Inc,312 Alta Vista, Ottumwa, Iowa 52501.
