Debbie was a wonderful person who always made people smile. She never had any kids but any child who was around her was treated as if they were her own. Debbie loved the holidays and celebrating with family and friends.

Debbie and my Dad had been together for 17 years, very happily married for 12 1/2 of those years, when Debbie was diagnosed with Graves Disease. Graves Disease is a thyroid gland problem. In Debbie's case, it was producing too much of a hormone and it was making her heart continue to beat at a very rapid pace, wearing her heart out. She was only diagnosed with it 5 days before she passed away. Graves disease is treatable although not curable. If you are diagnosed with Graves Disease, be sure to ask a lot of questions pertaining to your treatment. Make sure you find out the side effects of the medications, and exactly what the medications are for. If you have any doubts as to the treatment or even the diagnoses, please, please, PLEASE, consult another Doctor.

Deborah was a benefits authorizer for the Social Security Administration. She was a member of Beverly Hills Baptist Church in Independence.

Debbie is survived by her Grandmother, Grace James; Parents, Billie and Jay; Sister, Bobbie; Step-daughters, Sherry and Jill; 5 Step-grandkids, Sean, Eric, Thomas, Lindsey, and Joshua; and many nieces and nephews.

As of Nov. 20, 2002, her husband Rick Scovill Jr has joined her.
A niece joined her on August 16, 2019, Johnna Savage.
