Richard J. Thorfinnson was born October 13, 1927, at Grafton, ND, the son of Arni and Sigridur Thorfinnson. He grew up and attended school at Mountain and graduated from Mountain High School. On April 17, 1948, he married Rosa Kristjanson at Mountain, ND. In 1956, he started working for Polar Communications in Park River, ND, until his retirement in 1989. He resided in Mountain his entire life. Dick served on the Mountain city council and was mayor for six years. He was a member of the Pembina Hills Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Rosa; children: Barry (Sue Ellen) Thorfinnson, Temecula, CA; Loretta (Wayne) Bernhoft, Mountain, ND; Craig (Margaret) Thorfinnson, Mountain, ND; Roxane (Gil) Gehle, Wayzata, MN; Kris (Tana) Thorfinnson, Grand Forks, ND; sisters, Stella Becker, Grand Forks, ND and Noreen Timian, Aberdeen, SD; sisters-in-law, Una and Sophie Thorfinnson, both of Grand Forks, ND.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Elmer, Jack, Clarence, Fred, Lynn, and Sydney; and sister, Thelma Hillman.
Funeral services: Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at Vikur Lutheran Church, Mountain, ND.
Burial in the Mountain Cemetery, Mountain, ND.
