Rick was the only child born to Deane Ristine and Alene Juanita (Jones) smith. After his mother died when he was only 5 months old he was raised by his father and step-mother, Charlotte Mae (Oliver) Smith, and his brothers: Michael David, Steven Ristine, Stanley Robert and Douglas James. He was tragically killed shortly after begining his military service in vietnam, at the young age of only 19.

Richard Smith, Marine, Dies in Vietnam

Marine Pfc. Richard D. Smith, 16254 SE 24th St., Bellevue, was listed as killed in action in Vietnam by the Defense Department yesterday.
He was killed while on patrol in Quang Nam Province May 25.
Private Smith, 19, born in San Diego, came here with his family as an infant. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Eastgate and worked at the Mayfair Market, Lake Hills, during high school.
He was a member of the first graduating class of the Interlake High School last year. He enlisted in the Marines Corps in September and was sent to Vietnam in March.
Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Deane R. Smith; four brothers, Stephen R., Stanley R. and Douglas J. Smith, all at home, and Michael D. Smith, Bellevue, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Q. D. Davis, La Mesa, Cal., and Mr. and Mrs. Julian Jones, El Cajon, Calf.
Funeral services will be scheduled.
