Funeral Services were conducted at 2PM at the Chapel for Everett LeRoy Smith who died at his home in Gridley following a long illness. He was born in his family home 6 miles south of Anner, Canadian Co.,Oklahoma. He was the son of Rolla & Lula Belle Smith and was raised in Yukon,Oklahoma, attended school there. Following graduation from Yukon High School he engaged in farming with his father & brothers near El Reno, Oklahoma. After his marriage to Virgie A. Ogle on January 27,1935, he leased a farm near Yukon. In 1940,he moved with his family to Southern California, where he enrolled in aircraft fabrication school and worked at the Douglas Aircraft plant in Santa Monica. During WW11,he had a civil service assignment with the Air Service command at the 8th AFB at Long Beach. Later he was transferred to the P-38 training base at Van Nuys where he served as foreman of the reclamation crew. In 1946 , he decided to return to farming. He was encouraged to locate in Northern California by a friend, Co-worker & Fellow member of the 1st. Christian Church in Van Nuys who had connections in the Pennington area. He worked for Civil Zinzmaster in Pennington for a year then bought a dairy ranch on Wade Road near Gridley in the spring of 1947. He engaged in the dairy business fro several years, Supplementing his income with custom slaughtering service as well as doing electrical pluming & remodeling piecework & appliance repair. He also did seasonal work for Libby,McNeil,& Libby & this developed into year-round employment as an electrician for the canning company. He retired from his job with Libby in 1976.
