Essie Marie Stephenson, 95, Gainsville, Fla., formerly of Lewis County, died Friday, January 16, 2004, at the North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainsville. She was born on April 26, 1908, in Williamstown, Mo., the daughter of Charles Henry and Elizabeth Mumma Sawyer. Mrs. Stephenson was united in marriage to James C. Stephenson, in Lewis County in 1933. She was a member of Oak Park Baptist Church, Gainsville, Fla., and the Order of Eastern Star, Sikeston, Mo. Survivors include her daughter, Karen Fagerberg, Gainsville, Fla.; two grandchildren, Ryan Fagerberg, Gainsville, Fla., and Kimberly Fagerberg, Denver, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Mary Eunice McReynolds, Canton, Mo.; a nephew, Tom Sawyer and his wife, Joann, Granger, Ind. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a sister, Ethel Lasswell, and a brother, Ellsworth Sawyer. Visitation will be held on Friday at 12:00 p.m. two hours prior to the time of service. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 23, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. at Arnold's Funeral Home, Canton, Mo., with Rev. Stacey Nicholas officiating, with burial in the Forest Grove Cemetery. Music will be provided by Mrs. Jo Cook, organist. Pallbearers are Ryan Fagerberg, Jonathan McReynolds, Ernie Hamlin, Steve Hamlin, Jay McReynolds, and Joe McReynolds.
