She was the third of eight children born to them. Her siblings were: Ida Christine 16 Apr 1882-24 Mar 1915, Julia Maria 1 Jun 1884-5 Nov 1984 (Jacob Mandius Olson 14 Feb 1879-9 Jul 1955), James G. 2 Feb 1889-23 Oct 1977 (Mathilde Ann Cowette 6 Aug 1890-Oct 1955), Gilbert 19 Aug 1891-10 Aug 1943 (Emily Othelia Baker 29 Nov 1889-7 Jan 1973), Ella Sophie 24 Mar 1894-26 Dec 1983 (Oscar Thomas Dean, DDS 17 Jun 1878-23 Jun 1964), Agnes Pauline 7 Dec 1896-24 Oct 1981 (Ingvald Larson 11 Aug 1893-1 May 1971) and Oliver "Norman" 7 Jan 1901-30 May 1929 (Margaret Anderson).
She attended rural school in Lee Township and went on to attend and graduate from Moorhead State Normal School. She taught many years in Minnesota and North Dakota schools.
In retirement she lived in Moorhead, MN and in 1962 moved to the Eventide Lutheran Home. She was a member of Bethania Lutheran Church and later Trinity Lutheran Church of Moorhead.
Emma passed away 2 Oct 1970 at Moorhead, MN. Funeral services for her were held at Wright Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, MN on Oct. 5, 1970. Rev. Paul A. Hanson officiated at the services. Burial was in the Bethania Cemetery.
