Sylvester was in Co. D. 124th Ohio Infantry. His papers state that he took ill in May 1864 and was addmitted to the General Hosptial of Madison, IN with Chronic Bronchitis. By May 25th 1864 he was down with the small pox and on the 5th of June he had died from it.
Sylvester was the youngest son of Horace Bingham Morse and Betsy Blackman. Like three of his brothers, Horace Monroe Morse, Samuel Zalotes Morse and Charles Wesley Morse, he served during the Civil War. Both Samuel and Sylvester did not survive the war while Horace Monroe and Charles Wesley Morse did. Both Horace and Charles died exactly a month apart from each other in 1907.
