A native of Princeton, WV, Mr. Barbor was born on April 5, 1927, son of the late Leonard R. Barbor and Ethel Willard Barbor.
He served as a cook in the US Navy during World War II, prior to learning of God's peaceable requirements and becoming baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1958. Mr. Barbor was active in the Christian Ministry as a member of the White Clay Congregation in Newark.
He was a chemist with the Gates Engineering Company in Wilmington, where he retired after 33 years. A talented cook, he delighted in preparing wonderful meals for his family and his many friends. He was also an avid reader, enjoyed fishing, and had a genuine love for people.
Mr. Barbor is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Virginia R. Wimmer Barbor; son, Lenden (Lenny) R. Barbor of Newark, DE; stepdaughters, Rosalie A. Lacey (Patrick) and Laura Bedford (Raymond) of Newark, DE; grandchildren, Randy Barbor and Samantha Barbor, and their mother, Kelly Adams, of Newark, DE; step-grandchildren, Eric Smith, Renae Smith, and Jaclyn Bedford of Newark, DE; sister-in-law, Betty Barbor of Michigan; niece, Bridget Owens (Ron), and great niece, Madeline Owens, of Michigan.
A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, November 5, 2011, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 40 Old Newark Road, Newark, DE 19713.
