Anders Arntsen Haaland was born at Sogn, Norway 10 Feb 1851. His parents were Arne Johannesen Haaland and Marta Andersdatter Haaland. Arne J. Haaland was born 17 Jun 1820 and died 15 May 1908. He was born and died at Kyrkjebo, Sogn, Norway. Marta Andersdatter Haaland was born 1 Apr 1816 and died in 1898. She too was born and died at Kyrkjebo, Sogn, Norway.

Anders was the fourth born of their seven children. His siblings were: Sigrid 1844-1844, Lars Arnesen 1846-1930, Anna Arnesdatter 1855-unknown, Gullak 14 Oct 1857-2 Feb 1947 (Chriaanne E. Skram) and Malena Arnesdatter 1861-1900.

Anders married Gertrude Johannesdatter Maaren (Moran) about 1878 in Norway. They left Norway after their marriage and came to the USA. They bought a farm about 1880 in Norman County, Lee Township, Section 1. He also bought land in Hegne Township and more land in Lee, Section 1 until his farm was 240 acres. Andrew (Anders) was an industrious and progressive farmer. He made many improvements to his farm and made it a most attractive and pleasant place to live and work.

Andrew & Gertrude Haaland were the parents of twelve children as follows: Andrew Martinus 10 Oct 1881-25 Jan 1933 (Selma Nelson 26 Sep 1887-8 Aug 1980), Annie Hansine 1 Dec 1883-28 Sep 1975 (Alfred Christian Enger 21 Sep 1882-9 Sep 1968), John A. 31 Aug 1885-12 Jan 1887, John Nelius 3 Jun 1887-18 Jun 1957 (Clara Ingberg 14 Feb 1885-1 Apr 1963), Selmer 20 Feb 1888-23 Dec 1929, Odin A. 27 Nov 1890-5 Jun 1965 (Maybelle Caroline Jacobson), Ansgard Gotfred 4 Jan 1893-14 Jun 1893, Ansgard Gotfred 27 Mar 1894-6 Dec 1956 (Hedvig Christiansen 16 Dec 1900-30 Jun 1981), Ida Johanna "Hannah" 4 Jun 1896-8 Sep 1973 (Herman L. Gordon 26 Dec 1894-4 May 1949), Gina Louise "Jean" 7 Jan 1898-14 Dec 1933, Mabel Nora 28 Jun 1900-21 Dec 1970 (Robert L. Jones ca. 1900-unknown) and Paul Louis 31 Dec 1903-14 Jun 1965 (Grayce Beverly Tangen 26 Apr 1907-13 Jan 1995, divorced. 2nd marriage for Grayce 17 May 1951 to Claude B. Hackett d. Aug 1994).

Andrew was an organizer of the local creamery at Perley and a stockholder in the business. Andrew was taking a load of grain to town in February 1910. He had an accident while hauling the grain with a sled on roads which were rutted and slippery. The sled skidded, and threw him out of the box, dislocating his neck. The doctor from Hendrum was called, but he died on his farm at the age of 59 on 10 Feb 1910. It was a shock to lose such a contributing person to the community.

Funeral services were held for him at the Bethania Lutheran Church, rural Perley, where the family belonged, 15 Feb 1910.
