He was baptized Robert Francis Eugene Hovden on June 15, 1923, at the Bethania Lutheran Church rural Perley. He attended local schools and began working in Fargo, ND as a truck driver. He also worked in Vancouver, WA before going into the US Army during World War II.
After the war he remained overseas where he married before returning to the US in 1957. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and Fargo Moose Lodge. The identity of his wife is unknown. He was the father of two sons, Ronnie and Edgar whose whereabouts are unknown.
Eugene passed away May 10, 1969 at the age of 46. Funeral services for him were held at the Bethania Lutheran Church, May 14, 1969.
