John T. Johnson was born 20 July 1882 at Perley, Norman County, MN, the son of John Paul Johnson and his wife, Olivia Olson Johnson. John's father, was born in Clinton County, Iowa and was a general farmer. His mother, Olivia, also was a native of Clinton County, Iowa being born in Olive Township near Calamus.

John's given name was Martin Johan Theodore Johnson but was known by the name John T. Johnson. He lived with his parents in Section 22 of Lee Township where he grew to manhood. He then went to Moorhead, MN and attended and graduated from the Moorhead Normal School.

He had two full brothers: Charles Johnson born ca 1878 in Iowa and died as a youngster and Julius J. Johnson born 10 Oct 1879-died in 1952. Julius' wife was Harriet Blanche McNamar aka Hattie.

John's father, John Paul Johnson died unexpectedly before he was 30 years old. Olivia raised her two sons on her own for about 6 years before marrying Ludwig G. Skjold who was the blacksmith in Perley.

Olivia and Ludwig became the parents of three sons who were half-brothers to John T. Johnson. They were: Gerhard Magnus Skjold 11 May 1891-15 Jan 1892, Gerhard Magnus "Gay" Shold 24 Feb 1893-22 Oct 1966 (Lillian Thompson 21 Jun 1900-9 Jun 1965) and Walter Olener Skjold 28 Feb 1896-22 Dec 1962 (Rachel M. Ronlund 25 Jul 1901-15 Nov 1987).

John T. married Ida G. Ronsberg 30 May 1917 at Hawley, Clay County, MN.

They lived in Fargo and Ida became a clerk at W. R. Addison. John was a meat cutter at the Stenberg Market in Fargo for 18 years. He then owned and operated his own meat market, the Belmont Meat Market for a number of years until retirement. He then became a custodian at the First Methodist Church in Fargo until his health forced his full retirement about 1951. He was a member of the Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in Fargo and sang in the church choir for 35 years. He was a fine singer and had also sung with the Orpheus, Lyric and Amphion choruses. He was a member of the Lutheran Brotherhood.

John and Ida were the parents of three children: John "Harold" Johnson 13 Oct 1919-26 Mar 1984 and Margaret O. Johnson born ca. 1922 (Edward G. Jansen) and they gave a home to Wallace W. Lindsay 29 Oct 1924-25 Oct 2014 (Carol J. Ysteboe 21 Nov 1927-4 Jan 2014).

They continued to live out their lives in Fargo. John T. passed away 3 Dec 1954 at his home in Fargo. He was 72 years old at the time of his passing. Funeral services for him were held at the Pontoppidan Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND 6 Dec 1954. Pastor Rudolph Larson officiated. Ida passed away May 9, 1970 at the age of 81.
