He then became a custodian at the First Methodist Church in Fargo until his health forced his full retirement about 1951. He was a member of the Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in Fargo and sang in the church choir for 35 years. He was a fine singer and had also sung with the Orpheus, Lyric and Amphion choruses. He was a member of the Lutheran Brotherhood.
