Alfred J. Kuvaas was born in Lee Township 14 Oct 1905 to John K. Kuvaas and his wife Julia B. Saby/Saboe Kuvaas.

Alfred was the 5th of 12 children born to them. His father, John, was born near Trondheim, Norway and his mother Julia, was born in Norman County, MN.

Alfred was baptized at the Bethania Lutheran Church rural Perley 19 Nov 1905. He was confirmed 19 Oct 1919.

Alfred attended Open View School not far from his home. He then began working on the family farm. He also worked a couple of winters as a logger near International Falls, MN. Soon he began farming on his own in Mary Township. Alfred farmed his entire life growing small grains and milking cows. He had great pride in his herd of milk cows. About 1950 he began seasonally working at American Crystal Sugar Co. in Moorhead. He retired in 1980.

Alfred married two times. His first marriage was to Evelyn Jermstad of Clay County, MN. They were married 11 Mar 1932 in Clay County, MN.

Evelyn and Alfred became the parents of two children, Sylvia "Beverly" 21 Jul 1933-7 Aug 2003 (Calvin Lee Shearburn 12 Dec 1932-5 May 2020 and Samuel Burruano Sr. 29 Nov 1921-24 Jul 2015) and Donald Alfred 17 Aug 1934-21 Aug 1934. Beverly is buried with her son, Wayne Calvin Shearburn, in Graysville Cemetery, Graysville, Huntington County, PA.

Evelyn Jermstad Kuvaas passed away as a complication of giving birth to her second child, Donald Alfred.

On 26 Oct 1935, Alfred married for a second time. This time he married Annie Marian Klusman at Hendrum, MN.

Alfred and Annie lived in Mary Township and raised their family. Their children were/are: Beatrice Arlene 9 Jul 1936-4 Dec 1951, Allen Henry 17 Aug 1938-9 Jan 1939, Velma LeeAnn 29 Dec 1939-Living (Harold Arden Oakland 15 Apr 1937-18 May 1991), David Jerome 16 Nov 1940-30 Oct 2003 (Teresa Jo Melby Olson 30 Nov 1951-Living) and Allen Alfred 20 Aug 1943-12 Jun 2023 (Carol Jacobson).

Annie passed away 6 Apr 1981 at the age of 69 years at Moorhead, Clay, MN.

In 1984 Alfred moved to the Lutheran Memorial Retirement Center in Twin Valley, MN. He lived there until June 1998 when he moved to the Lutheran Memorial Home in Twin Valley.

He enjoyed music and played the harmonica. He also liked to hunt deer, fish and play checkers, horseshoes and whist. He also enjoyed being with his family. Alfred passed away 5 Jan 2000 at Fargo, ND. He was 94 years old at the time of his death. Funeral services for him were held at the Fredrikson Funeral Chapel, Ada, MN 8 Jan 2000.
