PROMOTIONS IN TELEPHONE CO.
At a meeting of the Board of Directors of The Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company of Baltimore City held on Monday April 25, 1938, Lloyd M. Griffin was elected general manager, according to an announcement just made. He succeeds Frederic J. Irish who becomes assistant vice president of the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company with headquarters at Washington, D.C.
Mr. Griffin entered the service of the Bell System with the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company in 1918. Since coming with the Chesapeake and Potomac organization in 1922, he has held the positions of general traffic supervisor of the Washington Company, general traffic manager and general commercial manager of the Virginia Company and, since April, 1936, general commercial manager of the Maryland Company, in which capacity he served until his new appointment as general manger. He is a member of the Baltimore Association of Commerce.

Lloyd M. Griffin, vice President of the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company, announced the appointment of H. Randolph Maddox to the position of assistant General Manager effective October 1.

Police Report That Gun He Was Examing Was Discharged
Lloyd M. Griffin, vice-president of the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Companies serving Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia, was shot to death last night in his residence in the Roland Park Apartments when, police reported, a gun he had in his hand was discharged.
Griffin, who was 52, was taken to the Maryland General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Mr. Griffin also was a member of the board of directors of the Maryland company.
Born in Oregon and educated in California, Mr. Griffin joined the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company in 1922 after having worked four years for the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company.
After serving as general traffic superintendent of the Washington company and general traffic manager and general commercial manager of the Virginia company, he was appointed general commercial manager of the Maryland company in 1936.

In 1938 he was appointed vice-president and general manager of the Maryland company.
He was promoted to the position of vice-president in charge of personnel and customer relations of the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone companies serving Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia in April, 1941.
In addition to his wife, the former Miss Louise Frizell, Mr. Griffin is survived by a son, Capt. Lloyd M. Griffin, Jr., 26, of the army air forces, and a daughter, Betty Jean, 21.

Funeral services for Lloyd M. Griffin, 52-year-old vice-president of the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Companies, who accidentally shot himself at his home in the Roland Park Apartments Monday night, will take place at 4 P.M. today.
Dr. Richard T Loring, rector of St. David's Episcopal Church, will preach the funeral sermon at an undertaking parlor at North and Pennsylvania avenues. Burial will be private.
Active pallbearers will be Harry S. Boyle, Arthur L. Eskey, Eustace L Florence, Robert C. McCann, Harry C. Ross and Louis E. Showalter.
Dr. Robert Lee Graham, deputy medical officer, yesterday reported that Mr. Griffin's death was an accident, adding that the telephone official was "playing with an old gun".
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Louise Frizzell Griffin; a son, Capt. Lloyd M. Griffin, Jr., USAAF, and a daughter, Miss Betty Jean Griffin.
