He married Adaline Bramblett (born 23 June 1842 to Reuben E. and Sarah Bramblett) on 3 Jan 1869 in Dalton, Whitefield, County, GA and began their family.
George and Adaline moved to West Plains, Howell County Missouri in 1871. they traveled to St. Louis and took a steamer up the Mississippi River then continued on to West Plains. They established their Homestead 7 1/2 miles east of West plains Missouri where George worked his farm. Born to this Union were: Eanses V., Missouri W., Anna Mary, J.A., Janie Palinor, Frank, Florence, Ednie, William and Maggie Summers. Adaline died 2 months after Maggie was born. Later he married Sarah Frances Hopkins. Born to this couple were: Birthy, Lloyd, Calie and Thomas B. Summers. Eanses was 16 when his mother died and the youngest was 2 months. Sarah raised all the children along with her own.
George Summers was a pioneer resident of Howell County. He spent 63 years of his life there and was highly thought of. He lived in the Summers District which was named after him. He served on many committees, engaged in most community projects, served on the school board and was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge. He belonged to the Baptist Church in West Plains.
George Summers died in his home 31 March 1934.
