William G. Smith, aged 70 years, died at 1 o'clock this morning in the home of his son Leland Smith at Seward after a long illness. Mr. Smith was born at Palmyra, N.Y., and came to Michigan when a young boy. He had spent nearly all his life in Lenawee county, being engaged in the drain contracting business for more than 40 years. He was a charter member of the Addison lodge, Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
He is survived by the son; three daughters, Mrs. Charles Morse of Jackson, Mrs. Charles Setty of Toledo, and Mrs. Bessie Jackson of Seward, and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the home. The Rev. A. T. Cox will officiate. The burial will be made in Oakwood cemetery.
