David Penley CLAREMONT David Clarence Penley, 56, of Claremont passed away Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011 at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Born April 21, 1955 in Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Cecil Francis Penley and Hazel Elizabeth Brackett Penley. He was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church. David loved to laugh, never met a stranger, and never forgot a name. He worked at Food Lion for 13 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Shannon Ray Penley. He is survived by his brothers, Ray Penley and his wife, Pamela of Conover, Justin Penley and his wife, Brenda of Conover, Joe Penley of Fallston, Tony Penley of Claremont; sisters, Barbara Penley of Newton, Marylyn Hoke and her husband, Darrell, of Claremont, Cynthia Puckett and her husband, James, of Claremont, Becky Canipe and her husband, Randy, of Maiden, Shirley Canipe and her husband, Ronald, of Maiden, Lorri Penley of Newton; numerous nieces and nephews; special friend, "Kelly," his bird; and life-long friend, Judy Willis. A Service of Remembrance will be held Saturday, Aug. 27, at 4 p.m. at Gospel Light Baptist Church with the Rev. Steven Chambers officiating. Burial will follow at Conover City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, August 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the chapel of Drum Funeral Home in Conover The family would like to thank Food Lion, Chubby's Restaurant and Conover School for the kindness shown to David over the years.
