Susan Blair was the younger of the two daughters caught up in the tragedy at Kanpur. She had been injured in the attack on the boats at Sati Chowra on June 27th, then transported with the other survivors to the Bibighar. A witness wrote that "she had been wounded, and was lying on the cart with her hair thrown back. Its great length and dark colour, together with her delicate complexion...gave her the appearance of an angel..."
