Sergeant Steve W. Alsup, DSN 8184, was commissioned as a police officer on October 18, 1971. Upon graduation, he was assigned to the following districts and divisions: the 1st, 3rd, 6th, 5th, and 2nd Districts; the (C.I.D.) Correspondence Investigation Division, Bombing and Arson; and the Prisoner Processing Section. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on September 25, 1991. Sergeant Alsup was awarded the following department awards during his career: five Chief Letters of Commendation, the Meritorious Service Citation, the Medal of Valor, and Officer of the Year. Sergeant Alsup retired on June 13, 2005. He had 33.65 years of faithful and dedicated service to the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in Vietnam. He attained the rank of Sergeant.
Sergeant Alsup died as a result of a single car accident on Hwy 49 and Route "K" in Iron County, Missouri. He was ejected from his 2003 Ford. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
