Lynn Rice succumbs to long illness, resided in Eldred nearly 50 years,
spent his life in lumber business.
Lynn Rice, 81, passed away at his home at 9:15 Thursday evening following an illness of several years. He was born in Turtle Point, Pa. 31 Oct 1868. He has been a resident of Eldred for 49 years, having moved here from Port Allegany in July of 1900. Mr. Rice was married to Miss Maude TenBroeck in Olean 4 Jul 1892, and Mr. and Mrs. Rice had the unusual distinction of sharing the past 57 years together.
He spent his entire life in the lumber business. After working on various projects for a number of years, he went to work for C. Prouty & Co. 1900 and remained there until 1939 when he went into business for himself, forming L. Rice & Sons. Mr. Rice was forced to retire in 1945 due to ill health. From 1906 until 1910 he was proprietor of motion picture theatre in Eldred.
Besides his wife Mrs. Maude TenBroeck Rice, he is survived by four sons, Glenn Rice, Eldred, Harry Rice, Stamford, Conn., Chester Rice, Coryville and Boyd Rice, Portville. He was survived by four sisters, Mrs. Charles Hakes, Eldred, Mrs. Edwin Stone, Mrs. Fred Wetmore, Port Allegany and Mrs. Low Whittmore, Kinzua, Pa., two grandchildren and great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. A daughter, Gladys, died several years ago and a brother Roscoe died two years ago.
