Leander E. Kwiatkowski, age 88, of Fremont, NE died Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

He was born October 8, 1923 to Peter and Julia (Jarzynka) Kwiatkowski. He grew up in Litchfield, NE and graduated from Hazard High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, from February 23, 1945 to May 29, 1947. In 1949 he moved to North Platte, NE and then he moved to Fremont in 1951. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a clerk for 35 years, retiring in 1984.

Leander married Jean M. Smith July 20, 1963 in Wahoo, NE. Jean died February 23, 2007.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #200 of Fremont.

Survivors include: daughter – Leann Tysdal of Ames, NE; and 2 grandchildren – Jessica Tysdal of League City, TX and April Tysdal of Blair, NE.

He was preceded in death by: parents; wife, Jean; 1 son – Edward P. Kwiatkowski; 4 brothers – Henry, Raymond, Avil & Lucien Kwiatkowski; and 1 sister – Bertha Hawley.

Memorial Service will be 9:30 A.M., Friday, October 28, 2011 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Father Ron Battiato will officiate. There is no viewing or visitation. Friends may sign the register book 9-5 Thursday at Moser Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of V.F.W. Post #854 and The American Legion Post #20 of Fremont.

Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
