"DEATH COMES TO THREE REMER HOMES IN WEEK - Funerals Held for Mrs. Myers, Mrs. Paine, and Mr. Wittwer

Mrs. Mary Myers

Mrs. Mary Myers passed away at the home of her son, James Myers, at Remer, last Thursday, March 19, 1931, after a short illness from bronchial pneumonia. She had a severe illness the previous winter, but recovered entirely and was enjoying good health, considering her advanced age, and only about a week before her death had come into the village to visit friends. Her age was 82 years, 3 months, 25 days.

Mary Ellen Reves was born at Mt. Sterling, Illinois, Nov. 22, 1848, and there grew to womanhood. She married Peter Myers, a Civil war veteran, January 29, 1869, at Mt. Sterling, and they resided there for some time, after which they moved to Little Falls, Minnesota, and Mr. Myers died there 26 years ago. Five children survive--James and Ed of Remer, Peter of Swift, Minn., Nathan of Strew, S. Dak., and Mrs. Jane Davidson of Beardsley, Minn. A daughter, Rose, (Mrs. Charles Johnson) died at Minneapolis 18 years ago. There are also three stepsons, Ben Myers of Remer, Jacob of Indiana, and George of Sumner, Wash. There are also many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Some years ago, after her husband's death, Mrs. Myers took a homestead near Strew, S. Dak., and resided on it five years, after which she disposed of it and returned to Little Falls. She came to Remer about two years ago to make her home with her son James. Mrs. Myers became a member of the Methodist church many years ago.

Funeral services were held at the Congregational church Saturday afternoon, attended by a large number of relatives and friends. Rev. Griggs conducted the service, and the American Legion and Spanish War veterans furnished the pall bearers and a guard of honor, since Mrs. Myers was the widow of a Civil war veteran. Burial was in the Remer cemetery."
