Abiel Abbott, a captain in the Connecticut militia, and a farmer. He was named as one of the grantees in the Indian Deed of July 1754 (see page, 272, volume 1 of History of Wilkes-Barre by Oscar Jewell Harvey). He, having subscribed for one share, or right, in the Susquehana purchase. In February 1722, he conveyed one half of this right to his son, Philip. Abiel was married at Windham, June 5, 1750 to Abigail Fenton. Abiel died May 21, 1772 at Windham, He was found dead in his field, "supposed to have died of a fit." His widow was afterwards married to Dr. John Chamberlain of Amenia Precinct, Dutchess County, New York, and died August 14, 1776. There were five children born to Abiel and Abigail.
According to "A genealogical record of George Abbot and his Descendents.." Abiel was "much respected for his good sense, moral, and religious character, and usefulness."
