He hearned his medical degree from Meharry Medical School in Nashville, Tennessee in 1907. He first opened his practice in Indian Territory in Oklahoma. He later practiced in Gonzales, Texas and in Austin, Texas. He was the father of two women who went on to become notable physicians in Texas and Connecticut.
