Born Amanda Helen Hill and later known as Helen Hill, she was the daughter of Parley Perry Hill and Amelia Swan. She married John A. Peden on January 11, 1872, in Woodruff County, Arkansas.

WASHINGTON, May 22.---(AP)---The body of Mrs. Helen Peden, 84, mother of Mrs. Pearl Peden Oldfield, former member of the House from Arkansas, will be taken to Batesville, Ark., for funeral services and burial Wednesday morning.
Mrs. Peden died Saturday at her daughter's home here after an illness of several months. She had lived here since 1914. She was born in Woodruff County, Ark., the daughter of P. P. Hill and Amelia Hill, pioneer residents.
Mrs. Oldfield succeeded her husband, the late W. A. Oldfield, as a representative from Arkansas.
Among Mrs. Peden's survivors is Ellsworth T. Kauffman, of Nowata, Okla., a grandchild."
