Jimmy was the son of Gilbert J. Rue, Sr. and Betty J. (Willbanks) Rue. He married, and was the father of a son and a daughter. When that marriage ended, he remarried and had a son. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1972, and is listed in the 1969-1970 Cruise Book in the First Division aboard the USS Mansfield, DD-728. He was buried on May 2, 1986.
