In his adult years he chose to answer to the name of Thomas, leaving his first name behind.
Served under Braddock and Col George Washington as a Lieutenant. He also served as a Captain of the Bedford County Riflemen under Colonel William Christian in General Andy Lewis' expedition against the Indians. He was wounded in the fierce battle at Point Pleasant by the indians. He died the night of October 10, 1774 where he was laid to rest at mouth of the Great Kanawah River.
