William Frederick Croushorn, oldest child and son of Nicholas Croushorn and Mary Ann Redner Croushorn; 1840-1905. M. Mary Catharine Switzer with whom he had the following children: John M. Croushorn who died at age 19 in a tragic hunting accident, James Wm. Croushorn (my grandfather), Charles D. Croushorn, Ollie Croushorn Harshbarger who moved to Montana then to Mississippi where she died and is buried near Pass Christian, Emma Ann (Annie)Croushorn Johns Howell (she married twice), and Mary R. Frances Croushorn Snow known as "Fanny" or "Kate." Wm. F's siblings: Pvt. Daniel J. Croushorn, Elizabeth C. Croushorn Craun, Margaret Ellen Croushorn, Jacob S. Croushorn, John C. Croushorn, Sarah Frances Croushorn, George Nicholas Croushorn, Nancy Christina Croushorn, Luther D. Croushorn (latter two died in early childhood of fever in 1862 on same day).

Enlisted in the Civil War at Staunton into Co H VA Infantry on 7-23-1861. Was listed as a farmhand. Battles I am pretty sure he participated in: Allegheny Mountain (Dec. 13, 1861), McDowell (May 8, 1862), Cross Keys (June 8, 1862), Port Republic (June 9, 1862), Gaines' Mill (June 27, 1862), Battle of Fredericksburg (Dec. 13, 1862), Battle of Fredericksburg (May 1-3, 1863), Gettysburg (July 1-3, 1863), The Wilderness (May 5-6, 1864), Spotsylvania Court House (May 10-12, 1864), Spotsylvania Court House (May 16-20), Bethesda Church (May 30, 1864), Rutherford's Farm (July 20, 1864), Winchester(Sept. 19, 1864).

The information contained in the Civil War records submission taken from a book contains inaccuracies though not major: Wm F Croushorn was not born on Jun 10 but Jan 10. That date is on his gravestone and a Bible. Date of death is Dec 6 not 9th.
