Edith B. (Knapp) Root
Corning, N.Y. - Edith B. (Knapp) Root passed away on November 5, 2011 at Founder's Pavilion, Corning, NY after a brief battle with cancer. She was the daughter of Guy and Genevieve (McChesney) Knapp, and was born on February 28, 1935 in the village of Riverside, NY.
Edith graduated from Painted Post High School. She married Charles A. Root on April 7, 1956 at the Methodist Church in Addison, NY. They were married 55 years. Edith worked at Ingersoll Rand and in the Addison Central School Cafeteria. She was a loving, caring wife, mother and grandmother who spent her time reading, crocheting, knitting, sewing, cooking, and bowling. She enjoyed watching western movies and crime shows.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband, Charles A. Root; three children, Catherine (Joseph) Mlyniec of Perry, NY, Scott (Cate) Root of Addison and Michelle Root (Larry Walrath) of Addison; two sisters, Betty Putman of East Campbell, NY and Judy (Ed) Smith of Beaver Dams, NY; grandchildren, Amanda (Brandon) Stuby of Corning and Nathan Cascini of Rochester, NY; great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Caleb, Aiden & Isaiah Stuby; several sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by brothers and sisters, Arland Knapp, Floyd Knapp, Robert Knapp, Clare Knapp, James Knapp, Caroline Knapp Meyer and Arlene Knapp Francis.
Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm at Carpenter-Flint Funeral Home, 10 Wall Street in Addison. Funeral services will take place there on Thursday, November 10 at 11am. Burial will be in Rathbone Cemetery.
