Son of Nicholas Croushorn and Mary Ann Redner Croushorn; Civil War veteran, who served with his older brother Wm. Frederick, my great-grandfather. Family documents and history are not clear, but at least one Bible lists him as having married on 25 Dec. 1867 to Lueacy Flemings. Info was found in a Bible passed down to the late Ruth Croushorn who lived near Mt. Sidney with her brother, Tracy, also deceased. (Children of George Nicholas Croushorn). I think the Bible had belonged to Jacob Croushorn, son of the immigrant Jakob (Jacob), but I am not 100% sure. Jacob and his wife Eleanor had no children. I know that Daniel had illnesses during his service in the Civil War, and it's my theory that he might have died of something that resulted from serving in that war. Siblings: William F., Elizabeth C. Craun, Margaret Ellen, Jacob S., John C., Sarah Frances, George N., Nancy Christina and Luther D (latter two died on same day of fever in Sept. 1862).

Enlisted in Co.F 52nd VA Infantry at Staunton on 9-1-1862. He was listed as a farmhand. Battles I have traced he was most likely in were: Battle of Fredericksburg (Dec. 13, 1862), Battle of Fredericksburg (May 1-4, 1863), Battle of Gettysburg (July 1-3, 1863), Battle of Mine Run (Nov. 27-29, 1863). He was sick a lot and in hospital several times.
