John was the son of Richard Chrisman (b.abt 1820) and of Jane Snider Chrisman (b.abt 1823). He married Elizabeth Garrett Reynolds on February 8, 1869 in Keokuk County, Iowa. They were the parents of 8 children that I am aware of; Gilbert A., Grace Emma, Pearl D., Anna Bertha, Richard Luther, Spurgeon, Jennie and John Talmage Jr.. He was a veteran of the American Civil War, serving as a private in the Union Army, Co. B, 33rd Iowa Infantry.
