She was adopted when she was just a baby, and brought much joy into their lives. She grew to be a happy girl who liked skating, dressing up, riding her bike, going to the park and chasing boys. She loved children and was a doting aunt to Laylyn. She also loved to sing, and had a beautiful voice. Her favorite song was "I Will Always Love You."

Samantha Marcia Dianne Rhodes, 12, of Pine Bluff, was found dead March 25, 1998, at Jefferson, from injuries received in a shooting. She was born August 4, 1985, at Antlers, Oklahoma, a daughter of James Troy Rhodes Sr. and Brenda Sue Davis Cox of Pine Bluff. She was a lifelong resident of Pine Bluff and was a seventh grader at Dollarway Junior High School. She was a member of the Junior High Band where she played the violin. She loved to sing and was a member of the school choir and church choir at Victory Baptist Church. Samantha enjoyed skating and played in the White Hall Girls Softball League as a member of the Reyco team.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, George Davis and Ethel Davis. Other survivors include three brothers, Johnny Rhodes, James "Troy" Rhodes Jr. and Jason Rhodes, all of Pine Bluff; two sisters, Veronica Horton of Dumas and Courtney Horton of Pine Bluff; a stepbrother, J.J. Nail of Lamar; a stepsister, Tesha Nail of Pine Bluff; her stepmother, Barbara Rhodes of Pine Bluff; her mother's fiance, Bobby Glen Bratton of Pine Bluff; her paternal grandmother, Norma Sanders of Wright; her paternal stepgrandfather, Gene Sanders of Wright; and her maternal grandmother, Audrey Jones of Pine Bluff.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Monday at Ralph Robinson &
Son. Funeral Directors with the Rev. Rodger Bottrell officiating. Burial will be
in Memorial Park Cemetery.
