MARYVILLE – Alvin W. Cotton, 97, of Maryville, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Eden Village Care Center in Glen Carbon, Illinois.

Alvin was born in Leslie, Arkansas on March 9, 1918, the son of the late Henry and Ruth Griffin Cotton. He married Edith I. Edwards on October 6, 1940 in Perryville, Missouri. She preceded him in death on August 21, 2012. Alvin was an Assistant Manager for a Grocery Company and was a member of the Meat Cutters Union.

Alvin is survived by one son, Kenneth Melvin Cotton of Collinsville, IL; one daughter, Ruth Marie Fears of Collinsville, IL; one daughter-in-law, Kathy Cotton of Anna, IL; 6 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; and one brother, Henry (Jack) Cotton of Clinton, AR.

Alvin was also preceded in death by his Parents; one son, Gene; one son-in-law, Charles Fears; one daughter-in-law, Debbie Cotton; one grandson, Jason Eckmann; one great granddaughter, Riley Eckmann; two brothers; and four sisters.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, February 1, 2016 at the Wilson’s Funeral Home in Ava with Rev. Dr. Jim Kerr officiating. Burial will follow in Ava Evergreen Cemetery, Ava, Illinois. Visitation will be at Wilson’s Funeral Home on Monday from 11 am until 1 pm. Memorials may be given to the Ava Missionary Baptist Church.
