Beatrice May Cruickshank Briggs, 81, of First Avenue and of Bluefish Drive, Hernando Beach, Fla., passed away Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, at the Sturgill Hospice Care Center in Brooksville, Fla.

Born Jan. 2, 1930, in Montpelier, she was the daughter of Vernon L. and Beatrice May (Russell) Cruickshank. She attended local schools and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1948.

For 36 years, Bea was employed by the National Life Insurance Co. in Montpelier, retiring in 1984, as the director of employee benefits.

On Oct. 11, 1984, Bea married Perley Briggs in the Bethany United Church of Christ in Montpelier and they made their home in Montpelier. In January 1985, they began spending their winters in Florida and still enjoyed spending their summers in Montpelier until 2010, when her ill health prevented them from coming to Vermont.

Survived by husband Perley Briggs.

Her funeral service will be held Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, at 11 a.m. in the Bethany United Church of Christ in Montpelier. Interment will be in the Berlin Corner Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
