William G. Anderson, 90, of 925 S. Lincoln Ave., Tyrone, died Thursday at Epworth Manor, Tyrone.

He was born in Tyrone, son of Andrew William and Selma C. (Johnson) Anderson. He married Janet Rice on April 3, 1948.

Surviving are his wife; two children: W. James (Shirley L.) and Myra L. Isenberg (Larry), both of Tyrone; four grandchildren: Wendy Isenberg, Jennifer Cornelius (Mark), Bradley Anderson (friend Chelsea) and Patty Isenberg; a great-granddaughter, Sway Cornelius; and a step-great-granddaughter, Ceirra Cornelius.

William was the last of his immediate family, preceded in death by three sisters: Esther Newman, Dorothy Kramer and Edith Miles; a brother, Robert E.; and several nieces and nephews.

William was a 1940 graduate of Tyrone High School and a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving in the European Theater. He retired from the PPG Plant in 1986 after 17 years of service and previously was employed at the Tyrone Water Department and the Pennsylvania Railroad.

William was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and also belonged to the Tyrone Lodge 494, F&AM, Jaffa Shrine, Oriental Band, Hookies Fire Company, American Legion Post 281 for 49 years, VFW Post 4559 and the former Tyrone Lion's Club. He was an avid Tyrone football and sports fan and enjoyed gardening and walking.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Derman Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone, where a Masonic memorial service will be held at 5:45 p.m. today. Friends also will be received from 1 until the 2 p.m. funeral service Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, at the funeral home, Pastor Jason Guillaume officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Tyrone Honor Guard. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park.
