Stanley S. Golka Falls Under Truck,
Is Fatally Injured
Elyria Famer Was Going to Midnight
Mass Xmas Eve, Lived Two Hours.

A Christmas eve accident caused the death of Stanley S. Golka, 48-year-old farmer of the Elyria Community, who fell beneath a truck driven by his son, Leon, and suffered internal injuries which caused his death two hours later.

The Golka family were preparing to leave their home two miles southwest of Elyria to attend midnight mass at the Catholic church in Elyria, and Mr. Golka and his son Leon were using a truck to start the family car, which failed to start because of the cold weather.

Leon was at the wheel of the truck and Mr. Golka, with one foot on the running board and the other in the slippery snow was preparing to get into the truck when he slipped and fell, unknown to his son, who had the truck already in motion. He fell beneath the truck and a wheel passed over his abdomen, causing internal injuries. Dr. F. A. Barta was called at once but was powerless to save him and Mr. Golka died two hours later.

A son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Golka, he was born in this county July 23, 1896 and was married Victoria Silver, of Loup City, in 1919. Throughout his life he farmed in Valley county. Besides his mother, Mrs. Mary Golka, of Ord, and his wife, he is mourned by seven children. They are: Mrs. Rosie Gibbon, Portland, Ore.; Alvin, U. S. navy overseas. Delores, Richard, Leon, Robert and Sylvester, all at home. There also are four brothers, Joe and Frank of Ord, Ed of Bridgeport, and Ted of Omaha; and five sisters, Mrs. Mike Kusek and Mrs. Louis Ruzovski, of Elyria, Mrs. Mary Powell, Edmonton, Can., Mrs. Walter Slobazewski, Boring, Ore., and Mrs. C. E. Dickman, Tracy, Calif. His father and one brother preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a. m., Friday at Elyria Catholic church, with rosary at 7:30 Thursday evening at the home. The Pearson Mortuary is in charge or arrangements.
