The Oklahoman, Wednesday, August 5, 1998:
Olan Smith of Oklahoma City, died suddenly and peacefully Saturday, August 1. He was 72. He is survived by his son, David Brian Smith, daughter-in-law, Terri Lynn Smith; grandchildren, Carri Ann and Robert Joseph Smith, all of Oklahoma City. Olan was born in Morris, OK, the youngest of five children. He was raised by his beloved mother and father and learned at an early age the importance of family and friends. Olan attended old Central High School where he played football. There he met his future wife, Roberta whom he married after returning from service in the US Navy during World War II.

He then attended Central State College (now University of Central Oklahoma) in Edmond and graduated with a degree in business. He went on for further graduate study at the University of Oklahoma in Norman. Olan went to work as a bookkeeper for M.A. Swatek Utility Construction Company. He became secretary-treasurer until in 1982, he opened Acquaduct Contractors with his son, David. There, he retired to enjoy reading, sunbathing and watching the growth of his cherished grandchildren.

He was a member of the Jester Chapter of The Shrine. Olan was a generous, caring, loving man to his family and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will hold a special space in the hearts of many, always. Memorials may be made to the Mission Council Office at the Church of the Servant, Oklahoma City. Services will be at 10 Wednesday at Hahn-Cook, Street & Draper Chapel with burial to follow at Rose Hill Burial Park.
