Once known as the "peach king" of this area, Jay E. Allis, 89, of Bates Road, died Saturday in a Rochester hospital, following a short illness.
Born in Clarendon June 3, 1858 he was the son of the late James Clement and Elizabeth Wheeler Allis. A well-known fruit grower, Mr. Allis operated a large farm on the Bates Road for many years. For twelve years he served as collector in the Town of Ridgeway.
He was a member of the Methodist Church of Medina, of Medina Lodge of Masons and of Orleans Lodge I.O.O.F.
Surviving are one son, Ray Allis of Bates Road; two grandchildren, Mrs. LaVerne Bacon and Sydney Allis; and one great-granddaughter; also a brother, Seth Allis of Livonia.
Funeral services will be held at the Hartt Funeral Home, Pearl Street, tomorrow afternoon, with the Rev. Reginald Cory of the Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Boxwood Cemetery.
