John T. Thomas, 75, of VanSlyke Rd., Mundy Township, father of a World War II soldier posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor, died Monday in Winchester Hospital.
The soldier, William H., died of wounds received on Luzon in the Philippines. His action during a battle there led to the award.
Services for his father will be at 10a.m. Thursday at Bellows Funeral Home, Durand. Burial will be in Crestwood Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Thomas, a native of Wynne, Arkansas, had lived in the Flint area 22 years. He worked at Chevrolet, retiring in 1960.
Mr. Thomas leaves eight children: Mrs. Burl Peters, Harriet, Ark.; Mrs. Elmer Ivey, Walnut Ridge, Ark.; John A. and Jess T., both of Wynne, Ark.; Mrs. Virgil Swims, Buman, Louis and Roy all of Flint. There are 34 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
