Captain Waddy Tate, Senior was born about 1741 in Louisa County, Virginia the son of John and Mary "Waddy" Tate. Waddy married Nancy Ann "Simpson" the daughter of Richard and Mary "Kincheloe" Simpson about 1769 in Caswell County, North Carolina.
Waddy Tate served under Captain Hart during the Revolutionary War and was appointed Captain of the militia in 1776.
Waddy left a will dated January 14, 1789 and probated in 1789 in Caswell County, North Carolina in 1795, the eight legatees of his estate divided 333.5 acres.
Waddy and Nancy Ann had the following children:
Upham or Fannie with husband Simeon Carllisle; Susannah wife of Benjamin Gibson; William with wife Martha "Patsy" Wynn; Ri9chard Simpson with wife Catherine Lewis; Ede with husband William Poston; Zachariah; Zedekoah with wife Mildred Roundtree; and Jesse Overton.
