Marie Amelia Taylor, 89, died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Northfield Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born Nov. 15, 1910, to Benjamin and Clara (Johnson) Drentlaw, on their farm in rural Rice County.
At a young age they moved near Hudson, Wis., where they farmed. They later moved back to the Northfield area. Following school she began working at the Unique Cafe in downtown Northfield. It was here she met her future husband, Charles Taylor, who farmed with his parents in Sciota Township and also drove a cab in Northfield. They were married on June 18, 1929. They began farming near his parents farm east of Northfield and a few years later bought the Taylor farm where they lived for many years.
Taylor was active in the Sciota Township community where she served on the Dakota County Home Extension Group and was a 4-H leader for many years.
She also belonged to Ladies Aid and womens circle through church.
She enjoyed being part of coffee groups and visiting with friends.
Taylor is survived by a daughter, Arlene (and Del) Gustafson of Stanton; sons, Ray (and Mary) Taylor and Jerry (and Mary) Taylor, all of Northfield;
sisters, Alice Grosser of Northfield and Margaret Tosney of Portland, Ore.; a brother, LeRoy "Bub" Drentlaw of Burnsville, 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband (1978); a daughter, Linda Bierman; sisters, Bernice Fremouw, Grace Parker and Helen Turnacliff; and a brother Arthur Drentlaw.
Services were held June 6 at United Methodist Church, Rev. Clay Oglesbee officiating.
Pallbearers were grandsons;
Thomas, Kenneth, David, Robert and Brian Taylor and Bruce and Scott Gustafson.
Honorary pallbearers
were granddaughters: Patti Winchell, Peggy Dass, Suelyn Taylor, Cathy Nelson, Joan Henderson, Lisa Moes and Jane Bierman.
