Reverand Peirce wrote a letter to Sarah Wheldon's brother-in-law, Job Edwards, of Greenwich, NY, inquiring as to the suitability of Miss Wheldon to be a wife of a man of his dignity. In the letter he requested that it be destroyed, and no further mention made, if the answer be "no". Apparently the answer was "yes".
After their marriage in 1845 the Peirces moved to Champlain, NY. The US Census places the Peirce family in Chatham, NY, in 1850. They are in Ela township, Lake Co., IL in 1860 and 1870, living close to other Wheldons and other families from the Greenwich, NY, area. The 1880 census places Rev. Peirce with his 3rd wife Sylvia, in Normal, IL.
