On January 9, 2007, David L. Lawrence, a 45-year Hudson resident, died in Tucson, Arizona at almost 85 years of age, with his daughter Anne at his side.
David was heavily involved in and committed to the Hudson community. He negotiated with the village for construction of the General Motors earthmoving equipment plant, one of the most significant capital investments in Hudson's 200-year history. He was an active member of local commissions, particularly the Park Board, and also served on St. Thomas Hospital's Board as a volunteer for three decades. In addition, he and his wife were members of Cleveland's First Baptist Church's 49'ers Club where they made lifelong friends and David served on the Hudson Congregational Church's Board of Finance.
He was married to Ruth Margaret Jones for nearly 54 years at the time of her death in 2001. After his retirement from GM, they founded a company named Snowlight that developed, produced, and sold national park stamp panels, thus combining his love of stamps with their love of parks. Their true love, however, was each other. As both friends and spouses for more than 60 years, they adopted and raised their two children in the Sugar Bush Trail home designed and built by David and managed to live happily ever after. Almost inseparable, they are now together forever, which is all they ever wanted.
David and Ruth are survived by their daughter, Anne, their son, John, his wife Mary Ann Ralls, and their son, Evan.
A small service was held on January 15 in Columbus. Those wishing to make memorial donations may contribute to Conquering Cancer, In loving memory of David L. Lawrence, Cleveland Clinic, P. O. Box 931517, Cleveland, Ohio 44193-1655.
