Ruth I. Anderson, 88, of Cumberland died Monday, November 14, 2011 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire. She was born October 5, 1923 in Long Lake, WI to Oscar and Emily (Olson) Foss. Ruth graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1941 and continued to work in the high school office. She moved to Chicago in 1943 and worked for Houghton Mifflin Publishing. After returning to Rice Lake in 1945, she worked at Lakeside Hospital in Rice Lake for 8 years where she made many lifelong friends.
She was married at Bethany Lutheran Church, Rice Lake, WI on August 5, 1953 to George Anderson and they moved to Hawthorne, CA. They returned to Cumberland in 1954 to raise their family and start a small business, Anderson TV.
Ruth was very active in the First Lutheran Church Women's Circle and enjoyed quilting and needlepoint. She made as made as 40 quilts per year. She also enjoyed traveling, watching the wildlife at Harbor Drive, reading and fellowship with friends and family.
She is survived by her husband, George of Cumberland; 1 daughter, Debbie Milligan of Baldwin; 2 sons, John Anderson of Stevensville, MI and Jim Anderson of Wonder Lake, IL; 2 grandchildren, Kari Milligan of St Paul and Krista (Ryan) Mahoney of St Paul; 1 great grandson, Kieran Mahoney and 1 sister, Lillian Roark of Spearfish, SD. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents,2 brothers, Ernest and Roger, 1 sister, Edith Riedell and 1 son-in-law, Lee Milligan.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at First Lutheran Church, Cumberland, WI with Rev. Timothy Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in Long Lake Lutheran Cemetery, Sarona, WI. Visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at the church.
