Celebrating the Love and Life of Linda Joan (Denton) Smith

Lawrence James and Mabel Viola (Smith) Denton welcomed to the world a bouncing baby girl on January 11, 1932 in their home south of Anthony, Kansas, during snow storm. Dr. Galloway came to the home but was too late, Linda Joan, had already been born.

Joan was raised on the family farm 7 3/4 miles south of Anthony and received her early education in a one room schoolhouse. She attended high school in Anthony, graduating from Anthony High School. She was baptized at the First Church of God and also in the river Jordon where her Jesus was baptized.

On March 16, 1956, Joan was united in marriage with Melvin LaVerne Smith. This union was blessed with four daughters, Lindsey, Lisa, Manda and Lorie. They made their home in Anthony, where Joan lived the majority of her life.

Joan loved to cook and have people come and stay with her and her family. Their home was always open to everyone. She was a member of the Anthony Christian Church.

Joan went to be with the Lord on November 13, 2011. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Robert Denton and John Denton.

She will be deeply missed by her husband of 55 years, Melvin of Anthony; her daughters and sons-in-law, Lindsey and Bill Small of Colorado Springs, CO, Lisa and John Mathes of Liberal, KS, Manda and Mark Ruffin of Oklahoma City, OK and Lorie and Terry Herth of Enid, OK; nine grandchildren: Stephanie Small, Linda Small, Rebecca Mathes, Justin Mathes and wife, Sarah, Reina Ruffin, Aubrey Ruffin, David Ruffin, John James Ruffin, and Jacob Herth; one great granddaughter, Eleanor Sparrow Mathes; three sisters, Ellen Warren of Bryan, Texas, Betty Lochridge of Escondido, California and Pat Casas of Harper; and a host of other relatives and friends.
