Norman Leo "Dirty Red" Jefferies, 65, of 504 Granite Drive, died Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
Husband of Bobbie Lee Dukes Jefferies, he was born in Gaffney, a son of the late Vernon Jefferies Sr. and the late Beatrice Peeler Jefferies. Norman was a 1965 graduate of Granard High School. He attended Johnson C. Smith University and received an Associates Degree in Personnel Management from Cleveland Technical College, Shelby, N.C.
He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, a veteran of the United
States Army, a member of V.F.W. Post 10431, and American Legion Post 201. Norman was a former employee of Straight Line, a division of Litton Industries, and a retired employee of Duke Energy. He was a basketball coach at the YMCA.
He was preceded in death by his siblings Joyce, Richard, Vernon Jr., Bernard, Billy and Geraldine.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Geoffrey Jefferies and Byron Jefferies, both of Gaffney; three grandchildren, Geofeneté Jefferies, Bryson Jefferies and Kaeyla Jefferies, all of Gaffney; and motherin law, Georgia Dukes of Gaffney.
Funeral services will be Friday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. James Sanders Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church Friday at 1 p.m.
