He was the eleventh child, and the ninth son, of Anton and Sophie Zientek Jozwiak.
He was married more than once, but had no children.

He was a World War Two combat veteran of the Pacific Theatre, serving in the United States Marine Corps. He was an anti-aircraft machine gun crewman, seeing action against the Japanese at Cape Gloucester, Peleliu, Okinawa, and during the Occupation of China.

His occupation after the war was as a heavy equipment operator.
